Third Electroacoustic Composition Price Visiones Sonoras
Invitation

The National Coordination for Music and Opera of the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes and the Mexican Center for Music and Sonic Arts invite electroacoustic music composers to participate in the third Electroacoustic Composition Prize Visiones Sonoras.

All composers or sonic artists from any nationality with no age restriction can participate by presenting an electro acoustic piece in the following terms.

Participation guidelines
1. Each participant can submit only one work;
2. The work submitted shall have a duration between 3 and 12 minutes;
3. Submitted works must have been composed after January 1st, 2006 and must not have been previously edited on a commercial CD;
4. Only stereo works in .wav, .sdII, .aiff, or MP3 formats will be accepted. No Works by post mail will be accepted. The works and documents must be sent electronically to the email mentioned below;
5. Works that are meant to be performed in more than two audio channels must submit a stereo version of the work;
6. No mixed or live electronic works are accepted;
7. All participants in the Composers Meeting that will take place within the Festival Visiones Sonoras 2008, as well as those not participating in such event are eligible to submit work;
8. Special guests of the Festival or other individuals participating in the organization and/or production of the Festival are not eligible to participate in this Prize;
9. Composers who have been commissioned work by the Visiones Sonoras 2008 Festival are not eligible to participate in this Prize;
10. Works that won in latest editions of this Invitation are not eligible;
11. Participating in this invitation implies the total acceptance of all guidelines by the participant, as well as the authorization for the Festival to use materials for promotional purposes.

Selection process
12 . The Jury will be comprised of recognized composers in the field of electroacoustic music;
13 . The evaluation of the works will take into consideration the quality in the presentation of materials, as well as the thorough fulfillment of the Participation Guidelines outlined above;
14 . The Jury’s decision cannot be appealed;
15 . All cases not foreseen in this invitation shall be resolved by the Jury.

Awards
16 . The winning work will be awarded the Visiones Sonoras Electroacoustic Composition Prize 2008 which consists in $15,000.00 (fifteen thousand pesos);
17 . The winner will also receive a participation grant for the Festival Visiones Sonoras 2008, entitling him or her to attend all the activities of the Festival. If the winner does not resides in Morelia, Michoacán, the Festival will cover the expenses pertaining to two meals per day and hotel accommodation, double room;
18. Additionally, $7,500.00 (seven thousand five hundred pesos), will be given as prize to the best work made by a Mexican composer. If the winner does not reside in Morelia, Michoacán, the Festival will cover two meals per day and hotel accommodation, double room;
19 . The Jury can bestow the Honorable Mentions that it considers to be pertinent. This award will consist of a participation grant for the Visiones Sonoras 2008 Festival, that will entitle them to attend all the activities of the Festival. If the winner does not resides in Morelia, Michoacán, the Festival will cover the expenses pertaining to two meals per day and hotel accommodation, double room;
20 . All winning works and those obtaining a special mention will be considered for future performances in Visiones Sonoras Festival.

Documentation
21 . All interested participants must submit the following materials to the addresses indicated at the end of this Invitation and only on the mentioned formats
• General information of the participant, including the following: full name, nationality, birth date and likelihood of attending all the activities in the Festival, all in .doc, .pdf, or .txt
• The work submitted only in .wav, MP3, .aiff or .sdII
• Program notes for the work, and a short biography, in .doc, .pdf, or .txt
• All materials submitted by e-mail shall be sent within a single message. Only ZIP, .sit or .sitx formats will be accepted if compression is required
22 . Materials can be submitted by any of these means:

23 . The deadline to receive materials is Sunday, October 8th, 2008;
24 . The results will be published on the Festival’s Website (www.visionessonoras.org) and the winners will be notified by e-mail.
